Harlem Parade, inspired by Beyonce's “Black Parade” single and business directory (curated by Zerina Akers’ “Black Owned Everything”), is a celebratory platform that spotlights the rich, Black, cultural legacy and diverse commerce of Harlem. It is a platform that focuses on art, business, and entrepreneurship, which are paramount to the Black American experience.
CULTURE COMMERCE COMMUNITY
Founded in 2020 as the world grappled with the Covid-19 pandemic, the Harlem Parade initiative is a network of Harlem-based creatives that produce unique content and activations to celebrate Harlem’s arts community, amplify Harlem’s Black-owned businesses, and promote civic engagement.
These unprecedented times have challenged our village in the most unimaginable ways. Many of our Black owned businesses have had to close their doors for day-to-day business indefinitely, with some others unable to maintain basic utilities. We asked ourselves, “What can we do? How can we help to preserve our great community and contribute to its sustainability?”
As storytellers, we can tell stories of Harlem...its resilience, its heart, its strength, its necessity.
Our responsibility as altruists is to be part of the solution. It is a privilege to serve as a voice to a village that has been a beacon of Black excellence for Black communities around the globe. We are honored to tell the stories that remind the world of the importance of Harlem, the mecca of Black culture.
We are committed to preserving Harlem’s cultural legacy, protecting Harlem’s Black commerce, and empowering Harlem’s thriving community.
We are Harlem Parade!
